04.20 - Love Conquers All

Sometime last week, a coworker received a gift of Girl Scout cookies from a vendor. I was so excited that I tore open a box and helped myself to several. So this week, I told myself that I needed to get my own boxes. I went onto the Girl Scouts website to see where they were having sales-- only to find out that the last sale within 40 miles had happened on April 1. Needless to say, I was crushed. I forgot that there was a short time frame to obtain those cookies and I had obviously missed it. I nearly went into hysterics and began walking around the office, asking my coworkers if they knew where I could get these beloved cookies.

After pestering several people and searching like crazy online, I finally decided to call the Girl Scouts of Chicago main office. When the operator answered, my voice was quivering as I sheepishly asked her whether there were any cookie sales still going on. She told me that there weren't . . . . . . BUT that I could come down to the office to purchase them there and that the cookies would be available till the end of the month. I think my voice cracked a little as I thanked her and immediately plotted my visit.

Fast forward to today-- I am the proud owner of eight boxes of cookies! I walked through wind, rain, and cold to get to their office yesterday, had to obtain a pass from building security, and finally entered Girl Scouts paradise. The office has a little gift shop that is chock-full of pretty shirts and patches and vests and stickers and all kinds of adorable GS memorabilia. Looking around, I actually felt a pang of sadness that I had never been a Brownie or Girl Scout. So to make myself feel better . . . I bought myself an "honorary" patch to go along with my cookies. :)

"I" thinks it's sad that I'm so obsessed with GS cookies, but the heart wants what the heart wants. :)

04.06 - Weeknight Dinner Spot

"I" and I had a delicious dinner the other night all for about $10. Where, you ask?

Costco, I say.

1 chicken bake, 1 carne asada bake, a Vienna Beef hot dog + drink special, and 3 scoops of gelato. Yum.

And we weren't even there to shop. We drove there just to eat. I am not ashamed.
