03.28 to 03.30 - Race Against Blobbiness

I signed up for a 5K run two weeks from now, and my friend (who will double as my running buddy that day) plans on doing a 10.5-minute mile. I haven't run in the longest time, and I've successfully gained 5+ pounds over the last month or so. I am a walking lump of flab. Walking up stairs makes me heave like someone triple my size, and I am so out of shape-- and so not in the right physical condition to do a 5K-- that it's somewhat amusing. Ha.

On that note, I ate like a beast this weekend. Maybe because I've missed being a carnivore, or maybe because I know I need to get my act together (not only for this run, but for upcoming summer weddings). *sigh* Anyway, in typical lazy me fashion, here are the food highlights of my weekend:

+ a few bites of a "Slayer" burger (chili, andouille sausage, jack cheese, cherry peppers, hot sauce...oh mannn!!)
+ 1/2 a "Kuma" burger (bacon, cheddar, fried egg-- yummm!!)

+ fattie Mexican omelette and chocolate/strawberry pancakes (the food wasn't so great, but the overall breakfast experience made up for it)

+ carne asada (the best darn skirt steak I've had...possibly ever)

+ few forkfuls of chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce (mm)
+ several sips from two frozen margaritas (so good)

03.27 - I Love Me Some Bacon

I'm not a bacon fan. Well, I like it (because no normal, carnivorous human being can dislike bacon), but I don't love it. Recently, though, I've been on this bacon kick. I had it last night and that got my tastebuds all into it . . . and then I wanted bacon with my scrambled eggs this morning (which is strange since I usually prefer sausage) . . . and then I had bacon in my turkey wrap at lunch today. Weird. It's like this period without meat has cleansed my internal palette and now I can start liking new things. Cool, right?! I'm not going to start eating veal or lamb though. My palette don't want no cute animal babies.

THURSDAY, March 27th
Breakfast
+ scoop of scrambled eggs
+ two slices of bacon
+ 1/2 raisin bread crisp
+ mug of coffee with skim milk and Splenda
Lunch

+ 1/4 raisin bread crisp
Dinner
+ several scoops of chop che (super yum!!)

03.25 - Meat Makes My Stomach Gurgle

I've become horribly lazy at blogging about my meals. My new at-work obsession is Yelp. It's a much more interactive and rewarding way to talk about food. Ha. Anyway, I had quite a bit of meat yesterday-- and I've found that my stomach is struggling a little to adjust to it. Poor little guy. :(

TUESDAY, March 25th
Breakfast
+ 1/4 chorizo burrito
+ fruit and yogurt parfait (yum-- my new favorite, slightly frivolous, breakfast)
Lunch
+ bowl of dumpling soup (the dumplings were good, the rest was just eh)

+ cup of frozen yogurt (the yogurt tasting kind) with strawberries and mangoes on top (mm!)
Dinner
+ a piece and a half of Popeye's spicy fried chicken (oh, how I've missed you . . .)

03.21 to 03.24 - Transition From No Meat to Meat

I've been so lazy to come on here and document my food intake. I think it's especially hard on the weekends because I'm not blatantly trying to find something else to do besides work. *sheepish smile* Anyway, the past few days have been very interesting. Mainly, I went from not eating our beloved animal friends to eating several. Gross, I know. Sorry. But, back to the task at hand: the highlights of my weekend were having breakfast with my fat friends on Saturday morning and pigging out at my cousins' house on Easter Sunday. I took several naps.

SATURDAY, March 22nd
Breakfast
+ chilaquiles (tortilla, salsa, and chihuahua cheese omelette-- yum)
+ several cups of coffee with cream and sugar
+ a trio of desserts-- the best being a French toast Napolean (oh man . . . soo delicious)

SUNDAY, March 23rd
Lunch
+ piece of baked salmon (it was good despite me not wanting to have anymore fish for a long time)
+ chicken adobo (a drumstick-- yum)
+ some red chile meat stew
+ a slice of ham
+ a few pieces of steamed sweet yam
+ several spears of asparagus
+ a frosted cupcake with jelly beans on top
+ a little piece of frosted cookie
+ a small slice of banana nut bread
+ a cup of coffee with creamer

03.20 - Dilly-dallying the Day Away

I took the day off and viewed it as my pseudo "spring break." ;) I spent a nice day with girlfriends-- we stayed up late the night before watching addictive soaps, woke up fairly late this morning, headed out to a great place for brunch, and spent a day at the beauty salon. Ha. Too bad every day can't be like this. :\

THURSDAY, March 20th
Brunch
+ several cups of coffee with cream and sugar
+ slice of multigrain toast with butter
+ 3/4 of a delicious "Acelga Picosa" (provolone, veggies, jalapenos, salsa roja, etc.)

+ several forkfuls of tiramisu French toast (yes . . . it was as good as it sounds . . .)
Dinner
+ a double filet-o-fish
+ a few salty fries
+ a few sips of lemonade

03.18 - I Am a Superhero

What I don't get is how I can be this busy and productive on such an inadequate amount of sleep. It's almost like I'm doing more than if I was well rested. And when I get into bed all late about it, my mind's still racing and thinking about all the stuff I need to do. It's weird. I have no other choice but to conclude that I'm a superhero.

And I guess superheroes don't eat a lot because my intake was pretty mediocre today. Eh.

TUESDAY, March 18th
Breakfast
+ yogurt, fruit, and granola parfait (quite delicious)
Lunch
+ small plate of penne pasta with marinara sauce and parmesan cheese
+ small piece of garlic bread
Dinner
+ cup of clam chowder

03.14 to 03.17 - Burnout

I have had one of the busiest, most stressful past few days ever. Needless to say, I am burnt out. I can't even begin to think about what I've eaten. The last thing I remember were some damn good cheese fries on Friday. And a really good crabcake. And blueberries on Saturday. And filipino-style fried plantains on Sunday. And eggs, over-medium, yesterday. But yeah. That's all I can recall. My brain hurts. Is it normal to want to hibernate in the spring? *sigh*

03.13 - Feeling Just Eh

I was quite tired today after my long Wednesday. I was pretty out of it actually. The fruit/yogurt parfait and the clam chowder were the highlights of my day, though, and they picked me up in a somewhat effective manner. Sleep will be a welcome treat as well.

03.10 - Hunger Pangs

The weather is back to being a wee bit chilly-- which I will attribute to my excessive hunger today. It especially hit me after lunch. I pretty much ate whatever I could find. If the pack of individually-wrapped fake American cheese slices were mine instead of my coworker's, I most likely would have eaten the whole thing. And if the random cup-o-noodle that I found in our communal food cabinet didn't have "powdered cooked chicken" in it (blech!!), I would have scarfed that down too.

Note to self: Bring nothing delicious to work on the off chance that you'll eat it all in one sitting.

MONDAY, March 10th
Breakfast
+ slice of blueberry/strawberry crumb cake (sooo good)
+ medium hazelnut latte with an extra shot (the extra shot was free!)
Mid-morning Snack
+ another slice of the blueberry/strawberry crumb cake (I couldn't help it...)
Lunch
+ tuna salad and dill havarti cheese on wheat (quite good)
+ a few pieces of fruit
Mid-afternoon Snack
+ a little piece of weird sheeps milk chocolate with peppercorns (blech...)
+ a handful of generic Fritos
+ two individually-wrapped process cheese food slices (mmm, so comforting)
+ another slice of the blueberry/strawberry crumb cake
Dinner
+ big plate of pancit
+ small piece of baked salmon
+ a Healthy Choice fudgesicle

03.08 & 09 - Whirlwind Weekend

I had so much going on this weekend that I can't quite remember the food I consumed. It's a blur of bagels and pizza and coffee and donuts and Korean food and random seafood and cheese cubes and blueberry toaster strudels and a stray fortune cookie from my purse. Despite the busyness, I did not go hungry.

03.06 - Yellow Love

I realized earlier that two of my favorite foods are both yellow: scrambled eggs and macaroni & cheese (though this is a bit more orangey). I also realized that I really enjoy adding things into these two dishes. Here are some varieties that have succeeded and some that have failed.

scrambled eggs + fried chicken = delicious
scrambled eggs + baked salmon = not bad
macaroni and cheese + hot dogs = yum
macaroni and cheese + crab meat = just alright
scrambled eggs + macaroni and cheese = eww...

I shall continue to try other combinations. Hmm, I wonder how fish sticks would taste in either . . .

THURSDAY, March 6th
Breakfast
+ toasted, buttered sesame bagel with egg omelet in-between
+ mug of coffee with skim milk and Splenda
+ 1/2 bottle of Vitamin Water “XXX”
Mid-day Snack

+ a little Tupperware full of the leftover crab mac-and-cheese from last night (good but still slightly unsettling)
+ can of diet Pepsi
Dinner
+ cup of New England clam chowder (yum!!)
+ 1/2 a toasted plain bagel with cream cheese and Maine lox (mmm…)

03.05 - Carb Overload

Nutritionists say that consuming certain carbs early in the day will lead to additional carb cravings throughout the day. I didn't believe it until today. We had an early lunch birthday celebration for my boss that consisted of Subway sandwiches and cinnamon creme cake. By the time I left work, I was craving pasta and potatoes like a crazy person. I initially wanted clam chowder (which I debated throwing extra potatoes into) but then I decided that I wanted Velveeta mac and cheese with some canned crab meat thrown in (it sounded wonderful at the time).

I devoured nearly all of it and felt so sick from the slighty fishy, random crunchiness (because of the small crab shell pieces that inevitably find its way into the can) that I stuffed my face with two blueberry toaster strudels immediately after-- and they were divine. Then I had a fortune cookie to top it all off. Yup . . .

WEDNESDAY, March 5th
Breakfast
+ two scoops of scrambled eggs with slice of American cheese melted on top (mmm...)
+ mug of French vanilla coffee with skim milk and Splenda
Lunch
+ two 4-inch subs with cheese and veggies (not bad)

+ small slice of cinnamon creme cake
Dinner
+ 2/3 box of Velveeta mac and cheese with can of crab meat thrown in (good at first, gross as time passed)
+ two blueberry toaster strudels with white icing on top (yummy)
+ fortune cookie

03.04 - Craving for Frivolousness

I felt so hungry today-- and I was hungry for fancy food, of all things. Ha. I'm gonna have to cut back on my lunch spending this week.

In other news, I finally went back to the gym after a nearly six-month hiatus. I sat on a stationary bike and read a magazine the whole time . . . then went out to eat after. *sheepish shrug* I'm fat and frivolous. What a bad combo. :\

TUESDAY, March 4th
Breakfast
+ medium coffee with skim milk and Splenda
+ 1/4 rice krispies treat
Lunch
+ a few pieces of bread with yummy whipped herb butter
+ seafood pasta (yum!)
+ a few pieces of gnocchi (with hot sauce splashed all over it)
+ flourless chocolate cake with berries and vanilla ice cream (soo good!)
+ cup of espresso (soo strong!)
Dinner
+ bowl of seafood ramen
Late-night Snack
+ a few pieces of pita with hummus
+ a spinach and meat pie (not bad)

02.27 to 03.03 - Meatless Vacation

So I went on a snowboarding trip with some friends for the weekend-- therefore, documenting my food consumption was the last thing on my mind. Here are some particularly significant meal moments, though:
  • I woke up the first morning of vacation and had some soup for breakfast-- beef soup. I somehow remembered and stopped myself after swallowing a very small piece of beef. It was just one itty bitty piece (that I can't even remember the taste of), but it still bothers me. :\
  • I've missed soup dumplings like crazy because you can't really get them here, so I was so happy to finally get to eat them again in NY. Sadly, I had to remove the pork and crabmeat filling and give it to someone else to eat. :(
  • I had to ration off a little pasta sauce one night and a little ramen another night before meat was added to the communal pots. It hurt a little.
  • While the others were enjoying delicious ground beef tacos, I had tortillas with just cheese and salsa. *sigh*
  • While the others were devouring juicy cuts of Colombian steak and sausage, I had sad little fillets of fish.
  • I had to poke the ham out of my kimbap. It left an empty space in the rice . . . and in my heart.
On the bright side, I'm pleased to say that I maintained a decent fattie rating throughout the trip.
